Editing experiences for draft themes

Create or prepare experiences in advance of a new theme launch easily!

Step 1 - Install Visually to theme

Before you can access the new theme on Visually, you'll need to make sure that Visually is installed on that theme.

In the experiences dashboard, click on Profile > Themes.

Find the new theme in the list, and click "Install Visually to Theme".

Step 2 - Create a new experience / Open an existing experience

Within the editor, you can switch between themes by clicking on the "THEME" button above the experience preview.

Select the new theme in the list, and click on "Select".

Step 3 - Review the Changes Included in the Experience

Make sure all the changes the experience contains are reflected in the quick preview section.
Different themes may have unique selectors (IDs). Every new element we add is placed before or after an existing element on the site based on its selector. If the selector's ID is updated or changed, the placement of the element may no longer work properly.

To fix this, you must update the element’s position by repositioning it within the new selector. This will ensure that the changes are visible again. Here you can learn how to reposition them.

Step 4 - QA

Here's our guide to conducting QA before publishing to ensure that the changes are set up as expected.
Your experience is now set to the new theme! Feel free to edit this experience just like you would any other.

Please note

  • Only one theme can be active at a time.
  • You can still preview the experience on your devices using the Preview feature, even if it is set to a draft theme.
  • To apply the experience to the live website, make sure the theme is activated and the experience is published on the active theme.
